About Lawn Bowling
Lawn Bowling, or simply "Bowls", is played on a large smooth grass surface called a "green". Equipment includes weighted oblong shaped bowls that are designed not to travel in a straight line (no matter how hard you try), a small white target ball called a "Jack" and a delivery mat from which you bowl.
The object of bowls, as in bocce or curling, is to roll your bowls closer to the jack than the other team. Rules, terminology and scoring are similar to curling.
The best part of lawn bowling:
- it doesn't require a lot of expensive equipment. All you need is flat soled shoes.
- we lend you the bowls to play with when you come.
- the game provides low impact exercise so it is great for all ages.
- it is a sport anyone can play regardless of their athletic abilities.
- it is played in a fun and relaxing social atmosphere.
At the Stayner Lawn Bowling Club, there are no leagues or pre-set teams. We play jitney style - teams are set up based on who comes to play that day.
In-house (member only) and invitational (open) tournaments are also organized throughout the season so lawn bowling can be a fun and relaxing casual game or can be competitive.
For those new to the sport, you are welcome to visit our club to watch us play, try your hand at bowling and/or sign up for a training.
The club is located at 205 Ontario St south of Hwy 26 in Stayner.
